Patrice Harvey, MS, LAPC is an Associate Licensed Professional Counselor who helps children use the therapeutic power of play to identify, interpret, and cope with trauma and to express their emotions adaptively, instead of through negative behaviors. Techniques such as sand tray, art, puppets, dolls, bibliotherapy, and metaphors are used during the play therapy process of exploration and validation.

During her experience as a counselor, Patrice has helped children who are at risk for out-of-home placement (hospitalization, juvenile detention, and foster care). She has helped children who have experienced the trauma of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse to understand and transition through the stages of the grieving process. She has also worked in private and public school systems to address the educational issues that often arise during childhood.

Patrice’s educational background began at the University of Florida where she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She then traveled to Atlanta where she earned a Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. Patrice has training in play therapy techniques and is active in the American Association for Play Therapy as well as the Georgia Association for Play Therapy.

Patrice’s personal experiences, compassion, creativity, and energy contribute to her ability to provide a safe and warm environment for children and adults to grow into the individuals they are capable of becoming. She practices a client-centered approach to counseling, where the individual determines the pace and she guides them to realizing their potential for change. Patrice also assists children and adults in changing irrational thoughts that lead to undesired behaviors.
