Jennifer D. Vann, MS, LAMFT joins Marietta Counseling with years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Jennifer holds a Master’s Degree in Family Studies: Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Appalachian State University. She is licensed in the state of Georgia as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and holds an officer position for the local chapter of her professional association.
Jennifer has been trained in systems theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, Play Therapy, and other psychoanalytic methods that help her assess her client’s needs and guide them to finding a resolution that works for them. Jennifer believes that each client is unique and therefore their solutions will be as well. Jennifer holds no preconceived notions of how to “fix” you or your family, but works with you to achieve your goals and help you find healing in a way that is meaningful to you.
Her specialty is working with children and adolescents and the family/parenting issues that accompany those concerns. Jennifer’s primary training is in family therapy that usually involves the whole family system, but often smaller units of the system are seen. Individuals also find that a systems-view of their problem can be helpful in discovering a more complete solution to the concerns that brought them to counseling.
Many clients who seek out Jennifer’s services find that her office is a safe and engaging space designed to make therapy an enjoyable experience. Both children and parents find that while they are addressing issues of significant concern they are also enjoying the creative techniques Jennifer uses to make family members feel comfortable in the session. Creative techniques are not limited only to children and families, but are available to adult and couple clients who wish to use more creative techniques as part of the healing process. Jennifer also provides traditional talk-therapy for adults who need support as they look for inner peace and resolution to difficult circumstances.
In addition to traditional therapy sessions Jennifer has experience providing group therapy both for adults and children. Jennifer typically runs children’s social skills group 1-3 times a year and a children’s divorce care group 1-2 times a year. Jennifer is also available to address groups interested in learning more about child and adolescent mental health, specifics on Play Therapy, parenting, and other mental health issues.
Jennifer offers a free 20 minute phone consultation that will help you determine if she is the right therapist for you and your family. You are encouraged to interview several therapists to find a good fit for your specific concerns and your lifestyle.
